Experiencing the heart of Jesus
Experiencing the heart of Jesus
Jesus met people with compassion, and love, during his time on earth.
The beauty of Jesus was his heart, and tender affection he has toward mankind.
Isaiah 53:3
3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces. he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Jesus didn’t seek self-comfort or self-deliverance.
He came to embrace and relieve human sufferings caused by the devil and sin.
HE CAME TO MINISTER, NOT TO BE MINISTERED TO.
Jesus said in
MATTHEW 9:36
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd
His heart can pick out a individual sheep from among the flock
Luke 4:8
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,”
John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
In his earthly ministry, Jesus showed that he will gladly meet you were you are.
It doesn’t matter what shape you’re in or what kind of crises you are experience.
He encountered and dealt with rich and poor, thieves, zealots, prostitutes, tax collectors, those who prominent in society and those who were marginalized.
In the Gospel record of His interaction with certain people, every encounter reveals something special about the nature of Christ. Consider these people who met Him:
Nicodemus learned that a person must be born again. He also received from Christ the most famous statement in the Bible, John 3:16. This Divine promise was given not before a crowd, not before the Sanhedrin, but to Nicodemus alone - at night.
Zacchaeus learned that the Lord loves all people, despite their unsavory pasts. He also demonstrated for us that when a person is truly saved, it results in an ethical transformation. Zacchaeus proactively made restitution to those he had wronged; and he did it joyfully.
The Woman at the Well learned that the Lord loves you regardless of your gender or your nationality. He will go out of His way to get to where you are. He is also willing to take a personal risk for you. His Gospel supersedes all barriers--- moral, social, and religious.
The Adulterous Woman in John 8 learned that Jesus knew the sins of everyone and not just hers. He sees beneath the surface. She also discovered that He loves mercy more than justice. Also, He enables us to walk a new way, free from sin. God alone has the right to exact penalty for sin, but also has the grace to forgive the penitent
Saul discovered that when a person persecutes a Christian, he is persecuting Christ. He learned that even though he was the chief of sinners, he could be transformed into the world’s greatest missionary.
The Dying Thief saw that it is by grace alone and not by works, that we are saved. He found out that Jesus wanted him to share a place with Him in Paradise, even though he had given a lifetime to sin. This is amazing grace.
The Demoniac saw that Jesus is fearless. No terror is beyond the ability of Jesus to destroy. He also transforms a person, and the change is instantaneous.
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
Matthew 14:13-21 NIV
13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”
16 Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
17 “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.
18 “Bring them here to me,” he said. 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.
Jesus Heals a Lame Man at the Bethesda pool
John 5
5 Afterward Jesus returned to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish holy days. 2 Inside the city, near the Sheep Gate, was the pool of Bethesda,[a] with five covered porches. 3 Crowds of sick people—blind, lame, or paralyzed—lay on the porches.[b] 5 One of the men lying there had been sick for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?”
7 “I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.”
8 Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!”
9 Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking!
Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus
Matthew 20.29-34; Luke 18.35-43
46 Jesus and his disciples went to Jericho. And as they were leaving, they were followed by a large crowd. A blind beggar by the name of Bartimaeus son of Timaeus was sitting beside the road. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus from Nazareth, he shouted, “Jesus, Son of David,[a] have pity on me!” 48 Many people told the man to stop, but he shouted even louder, “Son of David, have pity on me!”
49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him over!”
They called out to the blind man and said, “Don't be afraid! Come on! He is calling for you.” 50 The man threw off his coat as he jumped up and ran to Jesus.
51 Jesus asked, “What do you want me to do for you?”
The blind man answered, “Master, I want to see!”
52 Jesus told him, “You may go. Your eyes are healed because of your faith.”
At once the man could see, and he went down the road with Jesus.
Jesus Comforts the Sisters of Lazarus
Romans 11
17 On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days.
18 Now Bethany was less than two miles[b] from Jerusalem, 19 and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. 20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.
21 “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”
23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
24 Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”
28 After she had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary aside. “The Teacher is here,” she said, “and is asking for you.” 29 When Mary heard this, she got up quickly and went to him. 30 Now Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was still at the place where Martha had met him. 31 When the Jews who had been with Mary in the house, comforting her, noticed how quickly she got up and went out, they followed her, supposing she was going to the tomb to mourn there.
32 When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. 34 “Where have you laid him?” he asked.
“Come and see, Lord,” they replied.
35 Jesus wept.
36 Then the Jews said, “See how he loved him!”
